Leeds International Festival 2019 announces full programme


This month the Leeds International Festival revealed its full programme which includes a range of exciting events across the worlds of art, science and technology, featuring communities from across Leeds, the UK and internationally.


Speakers and performers include Winter Olympic Gold Medallist, Amy Williams, who will discuss the technological innovations in sport which help give competitors a vital edge over their rivals.


Other events include, Facing Brave: Women take on the acid-throwers, an event focusing on the professional women taking on the vicious rise in acid attacks in the UK. Dr Ahmed, the inventor of the world’s first acid-proof makeup, will speak alongside Danielle Cornish, an International Women’s Rights expert, and Dr Julie Thornton, a Skin Scientist, in a discussion set to put power back into the victims’ hands.


The punk poet, John Cooper Clark will also be performing and boxer, Frank Bruno will be talking about music and mental health in the Black British community.


Another highlight is the “Falling Light” immersive art installation at the Corn Exchange which will feature music from electronic musician Daniel Avery.


Festival Executive, Gemma Holsgrove said: “This year’s festival offers up a wealth of dynamic, industry-leading and innovative speakers, as well as ‘must see’ events, performers, installations, activities and workshops”
