Congratulations to runners Emma Boocock and Maria Paliuc from Leeds, who represented our city at our sister city Brno's 10th annual CRAFT Brno half-marathon – 10k – 5k on Sunday 16th April.
The two were lucky to be selected from numerous Leeds applicants to take part in the race, thanks to a special invitation to Leeds runners from the City of Brno, who also kindly paid for their stay and registration in the race.
The two from Leeds, along with runners from Brno's other sister cities were also welcomed by the city on Saturday 15th at a special dinner organised by the city council.
Almost 700 adults and young people took part in the races, which began and ended at Brno's Velodrome.
'Everyone was so welcoming through the whole weekend and it amazing getting to race alongside runners from so many different countries' said Emma.
'Having competed in running events for Leeds as a child, now as an adult I loved the incredible opportunity I was given to represent my Leeds club at an international event. Racing in my Drighlington Dynamos vest in the Czech Republic was something I never through I’d do and to be able to represent my home city internationally was overall an amazing experience.'
Maria was delighted to have achieved a personal best in the race. 'The weather was splendid and the overall atmosphere was fantastic. I was hoping to finish under two hours and I am still thrilled with my 1:51:51 official time. Brno is a beautiful city and the race is well organised and flat, so great for anyone who wants to break their PB! This was such an amazing opportunity. I absolutely enjoyed every moment of it.'
