Today marks the fifth anniversary of the death of Nelson Mandela who was made a Freeman of Leeds in April 2001, marking the contribution he made to peace and democracy throughout the world through his fight to end apartheid in South Africa.
Following his death, Leeds City Council held a special memorial event in the Parish Church and we made a film to look at the special connection which Nelson Mandela had to Leeds. You can see the film, full of tributes from local people, here:
