World Refugee Day: Our Intercultural City – Our Home

Leeds is joining other cities from around the world to mark World Refugee Day on 20 June.

World Refugee Day offers a chance to raise awareness of the plight of refugees around the world. To mark the occasion this year, Leeds is supporting the Intercultural City Network’s campaign “Our Intercultural City – Our Home’.

The campaign aims to highlight what ‘home’ really means to residents of our cities. Is home a place where you feel safe? A place where you friends and family are? A place where you feel welcome?

You can see what home means to some of Leeds’ residents in the images below.

In the week leading up to World Refugee Day, Leeds has also been supporting Refugee Week, a UK-wide festival that celebrates the contribution, creativity and resilience of refugees. You can read more about some of the activities here.

Since 2010, Leeds has been a City of Sanctuary, ensuring Leeds is a safe place for all people fleeing violence and persecution.
