Morley – Siegen older people’s link still going strong

This week the Lord Mayor of Leeds welcomed a group of older people from Leeds’ partner city of Siegen to a civic reception in the Civic Hall. The group of nine visitors from Siegen were accompanied by their hosts who are mainly from the Morley area. The towns of Morley and Siegen were twinned in 1967, with Siegen becoming one of Leeds’ partner cities in the 1970s when Morley became part of Leeds.

The link between the older peoples groups is still going strong after many years, following a shout-out for more volunteers to get involved in hosting the visitors on this blog a few months ago. The group included regular visitors as well as first-timers including Horst Uzar, who is a great anglophile and was enjoying spending time with local hosts. As well as visiting the Civic Hall, the group also had a tour of the Town Hall which is currently undergoing renovation work and were planning to venture to the Yorkshire Dales later in the week.
