On Wednesday 26th September, Leeds’ libraries have, as every year, celebrated the European Day of Languages. Many organisations that offer language classes, foreign language socials and other language services were represented in the Central Library with stalls and throughout the day the curious could try out different foreign languages in taster sessions.
This year, Leeds City Council International Relations was also represented at the event. In a public talk we looked back at 50 years of city partnerships and at our stall we answered questions about Leeds’ twin cities all day.
The European Day of Languages was also a great occasion for us to open a new permanent display in the Information Centre of Leeds Central Library on the second floor. Anyone interested in learning more about Leeds’ partner cities can now find information, literature and travel guides about Lille, Dortmund, Siegen, Hangzhou, Brno and Durban in Leeds Central Library. The material displayed in the Partner City Collection was kindly sent to us by the library services of our partner cities and equally we have shared books about Leeds with them.
