Commonwealth Big Lunch in Leeds!

Last week the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Jane Dowson, hosted a Commonwealth Big Lunch which brought together business leaders from India with representatives from Leeds.

The Eden Project’s “Big Lunch” is the UK’s annual get together for neighbours. Since 2009, millions of people have joined in together with their neighbours in a nationwide act of community and friendship. This year the Eden Project are inviting people across the Commonwealth to join in to help make 2018 the biggest and best year yet in celebrating everything we have in common across the 53 nations of the Commonwealth.

Commonwealth Big Lunches are happening all over the Commonwealth nations between 12 March (Commonwealth Day) and 22 April which marks the end of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or “CHOGM”. From 16 to 20 April the UK is set to host this Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, bringing together up to 52 leaders from across the Commonwealth to London and Windsor. Commonwealth Big Lunches are about celebrating being part of the Commonwealth, encouraging people to come together and making new connections.

The event was organised as part of a civic welcome to a group of potential investors from India, led by the British Deputy High Commissioner from Chandigarh. The trade mission included Chief Executives of IT companies who were visiting Leeds to observe best practice in the UK, explore business opportunities and visit institutions, incubation centres etc to see the best that Leeds has to offer in the field of innovation in information technology.
