Leeds City Region looks to strengthen ties with India


Leeds and the wider city region is looking to strengthen links with India following a roundtable discussion between the Consul General of India, Dr. Shashank Vikram, and local stakeholders.


The roundtable, which was hosted by the Business Desk, focused on the special and longstanding relations between India and the UK, and the opportunities to capitalise on this relationship to strengthen trade and investment between India and the Leeds City Region, post-Brexit.


During the discussion, the Consul General expressed his support for strengthening economic ties between India and the UK, saying that “Britain and India are among the world’s largest seven economies and there has been a robust growth in all aspects of the relationship between them”.


Other speakers to take part in the roundtable included several locally based businesses who have links with India, such as the CPP Group who have expanded their operations to the Indian market, Professor Roopinder Oberoi, founder of the Centre for Innovation and Social Enterprise at the University of Delhi and Roger Marsh, and chairman of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership.


Following the event, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Eileen Taylor, joined other local leaders and representatives from business and higher education in a virtual meet and greet with the Consul General.
